Dr. Paula Carrasco Espi
Dr Paula Carrasco Espi (UJI) (ORCID: 0000-0002-7170-4318, Researchgate) is a Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the Jaume I Univeristy (UJI) of Castellón. She is a researcher at the Perinatal Epidemiology, Environmental Health and Clinical Research group of the UJI and of the Joint Research Unit FISABIO-UJI-UV of Epidemiology, Environment and Health. She has a BSc degree in Biology and a PhD in Preventive Medicine and Public Health thanks to her research work in the EPIGEM group (EPIdemiología GEnética y Molecular ) of the University of Valencia. She has authored 21 articles in indexed journals. She has participated in 20 regional and national research projects, among them PREDIMED, PREDIMED-PLUs and EPIC, with great international repercussion, aimed at studying the influence of environmental and lifestyle factors on cardiovascular risk and obesity, incorporating modulation by genetic factors. This has allowed her to acquire extensive experience in epidemiological research as well as in molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction and RT-qPCR). Currently, she focuses her research on the effect of environmental pollutants and diet on respiratory health and cognitive development in childhood through the INMA (Childhood and Environment) project. She is currently leading the UJI-A2020-16 project at the Jaume I University, a project conducted in collaboration at the national level with the PROMHES-U project, which is focused on developing prediction models on mental health problems in the university population.
